Following his Grammy victory, Zakes posted on social media to share his joy. He even gave his late parents a tribute in the award.
“Took me 15 years to find my path; I stayed true to myself & my dreams, despite all the hardships that presented themselves. I have no words to express the emotions and grace that have come over me. This moment is owed to my late Mother & Father. Your efforts, sacrifices & lessons you handed down brought out the very best in me. I’m grateful,” he wrote.
Black Coffee also won a Grammy last year. He won the Best Dance/Electronic Album award in 2022 with his Subconsciously project.
He had previously explained, though, why he would not be including Zakes’ mega hit Osama in his shows after his big. Black Coffee responded to Sol by saying that Osama was hot, but it wasn’t his vibe.
“Yeah my musical reputation is based on what I like. It’s always been like that, and also, not all songs I like belong on my sets but last I said in my initial tweet Osama is a fire tune.”
