While in the height of her acting career, Vatiswa Ndara has experienced it all. However, she confronted several of her superiors about their low pay as well as other other injustices that were occurring right in front of them. Ndara discovered herself in the rain without a raincoat.
“I will not stop telling my story and my truth. The industry spat me out a long time ago. I don’t want to tell you about the time I had nothing. But I’ve been living by the grace of God. I am here and will tell my story.” said Vatiswa Ndara
Years later, very few to no production companies will cast Vatiswa Ndara, despite the fact that her talent and resume speak for themselves. In her most recent book, “Unfiltered,” Ndara discusses past experiences that still trouble her today. Vatiswa Ndara described the rape and sexual assault that left her permanently traumatized in an interview with Zimoja Lezinto.
The Home Affairs actress was just 35 years old at the time of the sexual incident, which occurred in 2006. Ndara describes being taken by surprise by someone she thought was a good and close friend after she approached him for help.
“I didn’t have money for a cab and I couldn’t find anyone to give me a lift. I called a friend to see If he could give me a lift home. Indeed, he came and picked me up. He fetched me, but I noticed as we drove off that he took a route that was not headed to where I lived. When I asked him about it, he said he wanted to go home” said Vatiswa Ndara
Ndara stayed in the car as the man entered the man’s house after they got there. He came back right away and asked her inside. Unknowingly, Ndara entered the home and was given the opportunity to take a tour, which led to her being abused.
“He came back to invite me in and when I entered, I noticed that it was quiet and dimly lit. I asked him where his wife was, and he told me she had gone home to her family. A violation of my physical form and a violation of my spirit; where I would experience humiliation in its highest form” said Vatiswa Ndara
Ndara is still confused, mystified, and unnerved by the man’s haughtiness after he took advantage of her and took her home. Later, Ndara filed a rape complaint at the Johannesburg Rosebank Police Station, and the case was transferred there for further investigation.
