After the death of Scelo Mbokazi, a newsreader for Ukhozi FM, condolences have poured in. He passed away on Friday, June 10th, following a long fight with an unidentified illness. He was 59 years old at the time.
Mhlengi, his brother, said the family would bury him on Saturday, June 18th.
“He will be buried in the dusty village of eMacambini, northern KZN.
“We will always miss his sense of humour and commitment to the family,” he said.
“He always wanted people to laugh. At family gatherings and even at funerals, he was a fun man.
“When the mood is sombre and you start hearing people laughing, you should know Scelo has arrived.”
Ukhozi DJ Khathide “Tshatha” Ngobe said hearing the news was very painful.
“We will meet again in the days when Jesus will do the resurrections.
“The Bible says if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, God will also bring those who run to Jesus with Him,” he said.
Ukhozi DJ and technical producer, Mandla “Njinji” Magwaza, said he learnt a lot from Scelo.
“When I joined radio in 2006 as a technical producer, he was the one who taught me many things about radio,” he said.

“At that time, I was not driving. He drove me when we went to record live in churches for religious shows.”
Another Ukhozi DJ, Sipho Mbatha, shared funny videos of him and Scelo on his Facebook page.
He said Scelo was a good talker.
Speaking on behalf of Ukhozi FM, SABC head of news for KZN, Busani Mthembu, described Scelo as a person who loved his work and always respected it.
