Full details : Babes Wodumo weds Mampintsha in a traditional wedding
Babes and Mampintsha to tie the knot this weekend
Gqom superstar Bongekile “Babes Wodumo” Simelane and her fiancé Mandla “Mampintsha” Maphumulo will celebrate their traditional wedding this weekend in KwaZulu-Natal.
Mandla Maphumulo, known professionally as Mampintsha, is a South African DJ and music producer. His collaboration with Babes Wodumo, “Wololo”, is featured in Black Panther.
Love has won for gqom stars Babes Wodumo and Mampintsha! The controversial pair is set to make things official on Sunday, 25 April during their traditional wedding in Ballito, on the KZN North Coast.
The exclusive rights to the wedding have been sold to online subscription video on demand service Showmax for their upcoming reality show, Uthando Lodumo.
Nondumiso said the two families were rushing around this week to make sure everything was perfect for this weekend, but said Babes was over the moon.
“Everyone is exhausted. It has been up and down. It’s their traditional wedding so you can imagine all the preparation that goes into such a big occasion.”
The ceremony will be followed by a white wedding in a few months’ time. “They will have a white wedding, but it is not this weekend. It may be in about two or three months from now,” Nondumiso added.
The two singers have been silent about the wedding as they signed a nondisclosure agreement.
However, sources confirmed the wedding will be held at a private venue in Ballito.
“The wedding is set to go ahead this weekend,” said the source.
On the wedding invite, which the publication has seen, the dress code for the wedding is traditional attire.
The ceremony’s proceedings are set to start at 9 am.
Another source said guests were asked not to record or take pictures at the wedding as this will apparently disrupt the couple’s carefully laid-out plans.
Mampintsha paid lobola for Babes in February and the traditional gifts exchange for families has been done.
Mampintsha’s groomsmen include Big Nuz member Danger and kwaito/gqom star Bhar, both of whom were his childhood friends growing up in Umlazi’s D section.
Danger and Bhar were around when Mampintsha was still hustling in Yeoville, Joburg, and trying to make it big in the industry. The other groomsmen are award-winning DJ Tira and writer Sandile Makhoba.
A third source said most of the guests who’re tipped to attend the wedding include their families.
“Babes and Mampintsha’s relationship has not been a fairy tale romance. They’ve had serious issues as a couple, yet have chosen to remain together. The show focuses on how they have overcome their challenges, working through them with their families,” Nomsa Philiso, MultiChoice channel director of local entertainment, said of the show.
The singers got engaged in October when Mampintsha proposed during an interview on Gagasi FM.
But their relationship has not always been rosy with Babes once filing an assault case against him that was later withdrawn. Their manager, Sbu Ncube, confirmed to the People’s Paper that they were getting married this weekend, but refused to comment further.
“Be my wife Ma Simelane. It’s been years, it’s been a long time my love,” Mampintsha can be heard telling his future wife in the video. A blushing Babes says “yes” and the room erupts in celebration.
“Within a blink of an eye and now I’m left speechless, the journey wasn’t easy but we stuck together through thick and thin. Ngiyabonga Mashimane,” Babes said of the moment.
Babes Wodumo’s reality show “BANNED” due to Covid-19
Controversial couple Babes Wodumo and Mampintsha’s reality show, Uthando Lodumo, set to follow the next step in their volatile romance, has been put on ice due to the adjusted level 3 national lockdown regulations preventing them from having their dream wedding.
The series was set to premiere next month on Showmax and document the couple’s traditional and white wedding after Mampintsha dropped down on one knee to propose in October. Sowetan understands that lobola negotiations were completed last month…
