Mmapulana Pauline Mmusi, 80, and Merriam Kelebogile Mokgalagadi, 59, are said to have left their homes on Thursday in the late afternoon to gather firewood in a nearby field. The horrifying discovery was made as a result of the families’ and the neighborhood’s search for them when they failed to arrive home before dusk. Both gogos were discovered dead close to one another, according to a Colonel Adle Myburg of the North West police spokesperson.

Myburg said that the gogos were both severely assaulted and sustained serious head injuries. “They were both declared dead on the scene by Emergency Medical & Rescue Services. Police are also investigating the possibility that the victims might have been raped,” she said.

Muburg urged anyone with knowledge to contact Warrant Officer Peace Babe at 082 443 8680 so that they may help the police with their inquiry. Meanwhile, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena, the commissioner of the North West Police, denounced the event and vowed that the police will work nonstop to bring those guilty for this heinous murder to justice.
