Masten Wanjala, a self-confessed serial killer, has escaped from a police jail.
Masten Millimo Wanjala, the self-confessed serial killer behind the murder of more than 10 minors, has escaped from police custody.
Wanjala had been detained at Nairobi’s Jogoo Road Police Station when he escaped.
According to the police report, Wanjala’s disappearance was discovered by the officer who arrived on duty at 7 a.m. on Wednesday.
“This was noticed when they were taking over the report office and cell sentry duties. They informed the D/ocs who was in the report office minuting cases in the OB,” reads the report.
“The deputy OCS informed the OCPD Buruburu and raised alarm and the area was combed inorder to re arrest the prisoner.”
It remains unclear how the 20-year-old suspect, who was set to take plea on Wednesday, October 13, managed to slip from custody.
Wanjala had killed four youngsters in Bungoma last month, bringing his total number of victims to thirteen.
The 20-year-old led detectives to two murder scenes in Machakos county, five in Nairobi and two in Kajiado.
He was scheduled to face 13 counts of murder.
Politician Mike Sonko is offering a cash reward to anyone who will give information on the whereabouts of suspected serial killer Masten Wanjala. On Wednesday, October 13, Sonko expressed his disappointment after learning that Wanjala had escaped from the Jogoo Road police station where he was being held.
The former Nairobi Governor said he was willing to give Ksh200,000 to any person that will provide police with relevant information that will see Wanjala rearrested.
His sentiments were echoed by Kamukunji Member of Parliament Yusuf Hassan who noted that the police should be held accountable for the mysterious disappearance of Wanjala.
“I’m shocked to hear this serial killer has escaped. This is unacceptable. This guy poses a real threat to our children. @IG_NPS, @NPSC_KE @DCI_Kenya must ensure that he’s taken off our streets quickly and placed behind bars,” the Kamukunji lawmaker stated.
