President Ramaphosa was born on November 17, 1952, in Tshiawelo, Soweto, to a Venda family.

His mother, Munyadziwa Erdmuth Ramaphosa, died in 2001 at the age of 82. Cyril Ramaphosa’s father was the late Samuel Ramaphosa, a retired policeman.

In a family of three, Cyril Ramaphosa was the second child. Prior to beginning classes at Mphaphuli High School in Sibasa, Venda, in 1971, he attended Tshilidzi Primary School and Sekano Ntoane High School in Soweto.

Following that, he applied to the University of the North (Turfloop) in Limpopo, where he joined the South African Students Organization (SASO) and got involved in student politics. His involvement in political action and the fight against apartheid began at this point, and this ultimately led to his involvement in national politics.

Ivy Ramaphosa is Cyril Ramaphosa’s sister. She is the eldest sibling of Cyril and Douglas Ramaphosa and the only sister in the family of three.

Despite being connected to the most powerful man in South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa’s sister maintains a low profile and little is known about her.

Ivy, who is very proud of her younger brother and bears a striking resemblance to him, was ecstatic when Ramaphosa won the ANC presidential election at Nasrec in December 2017.

She continued by claiming that their late father, who regarded South Africa as a territory belonging to white people and would be pleased with his son, had never dreamed that the nation would ever elect a black president.
