Thembi Seete Set To Join IdolsSA As New Judge
Thembi Seete is set to join Randall and Unathi for this Sunday’s Showstopper performances. Seete has experience when to comes to vocals and singing as she was part of the Boom Shaka Kwaito group.
Some fans are looking forward to having her in the show whilst some want Somizi back.
IdolsSA is on a desperate mission to restore its ratings, which have plummeted since Somizi Mhlongo’s departure. The addition additional guesst judges appears to be working, since ratings have gradually improved and the trend map has remained high.
It will be another positive move for Idols with Thembi Seete joining them, as Thembi Seete is well-liked in Mzansi.
Seete is no stranger to Mzansi Magic viewers, having recently been in the smash serial “Gomora” as Gladys, the latest in a long number of appearances dating back to 2000. Her musical background, on the other hand, makes her an ideal complement to the judging panel of South Africa’s most prestigious singing competition.
As a member of the pioneering kwaito group, Boom Shaka, Seete played a role in shaping the genre in its early days – days of post-struggle liberation and music that became increasingly apolitical, aiming to entertain rather than mobilise. Their debut single, “It’s About Time”, remains one of the most recognisable South African songs, and still gets regular airplay.
Following the band’s breakup in 2000, Seete released her debut solo album, Lollipop, and her sophomore release, S’matsatsa, collaborating with fellow kwaito legends, Skwatta Kamp.
Her latest job, however, is that of Idols SA judge, and she’ll be joining Randall Abrahams and Unathi Nkayi this Sunday to lend her voice to the judging panel of the “Showstopper” episode – a night of nothing but BIG songs. Save the date!
Season 17 of Idols SA broadcasts on Sundays at 17:00 on Mzansi Magic, channel 161
